How to childproof your kitchen: which accessories to focus on and useful safety tips

Here are the furnishings you should focus on to make your kitchen cosy and super-safe, childproof...

The kitchen, one of the rooms in the home most loved by the whole family, including children: lunches, dinners, moments of conviviality and daily family sharing almost always have this very place in the home as their backdrop.

Precisely because it is the room in which one spends a lot of time, it is good that the aesthetics of the furnishings and the functionality of the appliances marry as much as possible the practicality and safety, especially when you have children in the house.

When children are involved, it is indeed essential to make one's home suitable for their needs: usable and, as we have already said, 'super safe'.

This also applies to the kitchen; it is not uncommon here for the little ones to enjoy being in the company of their parents while they cook (perhaps some good cakes), but also to play and, of course, have a happy lunch with the whole family.

The kitchen, however, is a very insidious place for children: heat sources, cleaning agents, sharp and dangerous utensils can be found almost everywhere, which is why it is very difficult to make your kitchen a safe place.

But is it possible to childproof the kitchen? Yes, if a few simple tricks are put in place that can really make a difference.

Let us start with one of the simplest and, precisely for this reason, often overlooked elements: the opening of the lower cabinet doors.

Nowadays, there are really clever solutions to secure them and prevent children from easily opening them and risking injury, perhaps because dangerous utensils, as well as heavy pans and pots and pans, are inside. Simple door locks placed inside the furniture to avoid the worst.

Even outdoors, there are practical and safe solutions: use solid and sturdy handles, just like those made by Polideas which has designed a whole range of ergonomic and durable handles that are perfect for combining style and safety in the kitchen.

Polideas handles in fact, they do not have sharp edges, but rather rounded shapes that are safe even for small children.

Not only that, but another way to prevent young children from having access to tools that are dangerous for them is to place them high up: Polideas has also come up with a series of designer knobs which can be applied not only to drawers and cupboards, but also on walls or other surfaces, so that you can have a holder where you can hang essential accessories, taking them out of reach of children.

Cutlery, especially knives but also forks, should also be well stored to prevent them from becoming dangerous for the little ones in the house. This is why it is best to store everything in special cutlery holders - such as those proposed by Polideasin different formats and with a beautiful design - and then place them in the top drawers.

To make the kitchen safe and childproof, even more precautions are needed, such as remove any type of detergent from the lower doors or choose only those with a secure opening system, which are difficult to open.

When moving away from the burning cooker, it is best to place pots and pans on the cooker closest to the wall, which is difficult to reach.

Important, for a truly child-proof kitchen, protect the edges of furniture and table with appropriate corner protectors, as well as any electrical sockets located lower down must be suitably covered.

Finally, place hooks to hold the tablecloth in place when setting the table: children often like to play while the grown-ups cook or set the table and it's a cinch to drop everything with the risk of hurting themselves with plates, glasses and knives.

So it really doesn't take much to make your kitchen super-safe: a few simple measures and some targeted furnishings can make all the difference, allowing the whole family, including children, to experience this room of the house in complete freedom.
